Philadelphia documentary film maker John Foley met Fergus O'Farrell in 2000. Their friendship developed via email, phone calls and sporadic visits over eight years. The one thing Foley prayed for was to hear his friend performing in the US. Someone was listening.

The two, performing as The Swell Season, closed out their American tour at the Tower Theater this week, playing to a sold-out crowd. And they offered a little treat--a band Hansard acknowledges as one of the most influential in his musical career that he brought over from Ireland for two East Coast shows. We were there.
