Irish princess
Jocelyn McGillian, 2009 Rose of Tralee, at WHYY on Thursday.

It’s rare for WHYY to have a princess taking pledges over the phone during on-air fundraisers, but on Thursday they had two—plus one who gave up her crown this year.

Jocelyn McGillian, the 2009 Rose of Tralee, and Keira McDonagh, the Donegal Association’s 2010 Mary from Dungloe, joined 2009 Mary from Dungloe Emily Weideman on the phones during College Challenge, the mid-winter fundraiser for the National Public Radio station in Philadelphia.

But they weren’t alone—the editors, writers, and photographers from www.irishphiladelphia; Siobhan Lyons, executive director of the Philadelphia Irish Immigration Center; Rose of Tralee pageant honcho Sarah Conaghan and Rose candidate Melissa Bowers all volunteered to represent the Irish community during the least sought-after shift: 6 to 10 AM, morning drive time.

Check out our pictures of this fun morning for a good cause.
